Communities In Schools of the Nation's Capital
“Seeds of Change” Cocktail Reception
Thank you for making the CIS of the Nation's Capital Seeds of Change event a success. More than 200 old and new friends filled The Ritz-Carlton, Georgetown to celebrate our mission to improve graduation rates and academic achievement in the District of Columbia.
We were honored to present Quinn Bradlee, Eugene Ford, Sr., and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company with the Communities In Schools Award.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and all of the students and families we serve, thank you for your generous support.

Communities In Schools "Power Lunch” with Friends of Quinn was piloted at Ferebee-Hope Elementary School during the 2009-10 school year. The program was named “Power Lunch” because the goal is to empower Learning Disabled (LD) students to express their voices in a supportive, engaging forum. Quinn Bradlee, his mother, Sally Quinn, and their special guests engage students in positive social interaction to develop self-esteem and promote the fulfillment of their unique potential. “Power Lunch” sessions are not only for students; they are open to individuals, including parents and teachers, who play an integral part in students’ lives.
Eugene F. Ford, Sr.
Eugene F. Ford, Sr. has contributed more $1 million to support programs in the communities he has developed. Five of his housing communities are in Ward 8. Since 2010, Mr. Ford has contributed more than $400,000 to Communities In Schools of the Nation’s Capital to support the delivery of Communities In Schools services, programs and incentives at two Ward 8 schools, Hart Middle and MC Terrell/ McGogney Elementary. His funding also assisted Communities In Schools in developing a sustainable relationship with parents by allowing us to connect with them where they live. Additionally, his funding supported all parent engagement training, workshops, activities, resources, services, incentives and family trips coordinated by Communities In Schools. Lastly, his funding established the Ward 8 Parent Engagement Collaborative which includes Communities In Schools, Academy of Hope (Adult Literacy) and Community Preservation and Development Corporation (Founded by Mr. Ford, develops, revitalizes and maintains our partner housing communities).
